Guadeloupe: mobilization of the Nou Las Palé collective and blockades

In late October 2026, after nearly two weeks of mobilization by the Nou Las Palé collective, several blockades and obstacles were reported in Le Gosier, Sainte-Anne and Baie-Mahault, without major disruptions. The collective then challenged the prefect's account of the cancellation of a meeting scheduled for October 25, stating it had never received an official invitation. On October 28, after the presence of asbestos was confirmed in rubble used for blockades in Jarry, MP Olivier Serva questioned the prefect about their origin and the risks involved. On October 31, the La Boucan bridge in Sainte-Rose was blocked with burning trash, with gendarmes opening a passage while traffic remained complicated in northern Basse-Terre. On November 1, the president of UDE-MEDEF, Bruno Blandin, denounced the blockade of the Jarry zone by José Gaddarkhan, notably with asbestos-contaminated rubble, which he considers harmful to thousands of businesses.
