Multiplication of copper thefts on networks and charging stations in France

Late October 2026, repeated cable thefts on electric vehicle charging stations are reported in the Lens area, a phenomenon then described as a new scourge. The incidents then spread to other infrastructures: telephone network in Cramant, fiber in the Laonnois, public lighting in Mondeville and Aubigny-Les Clouzeaux, or telephone cables near Rouen. Copper thefts are also recorded in the Ain and Morbihan, the latter presented as the most targeted Breton department. Early November, Charge France indicates that more than 15% of the fast-charging network has been affected and that cable thefts have multiplied by ten in one year.
