Il génère une nouvelle crise dans la crise, plaçant toutes les gauches dans une logique outrancière d'escalade. Ce n’est plus « un maire de gauche qui se bat contre le racisme ». C’est le premier maire français à avoir fait de la négation de l’islamisme et du grand remplacement un outil de gouvernance.
