# Bouches-du-Rhône: firefighter shot and wounded in Pennes-Mirabeau

> On November 1 in Pennes-Mirabeau, a firefighter was shot during an intervention; the assailant barricaded himself and the RAID intervened. The following day, the man was arrested and rallies in support of firefighters were called outside fire stations across France. On November 3, the suspect was brought before the judiciary, saying he felt "persecuted"; an RN MP denounced the assault and called for mandatory minimum sentences, while Laurent Nuñez mentioned a possible ambush. The same day, the 51-year-old suspect was charged with attempted homicide and remanded in custody.

## Reported figures

- 9 deaths
- 2 injured
- 1 arrests

## Coverage angles

The three sides cover the same facts (shooting of a firefighter in Pennes-Mirabeau, arrest, indictment), but differ by angle: the left emphasizes the suspect's profile and the account of events, the center on the judicial procedure and Laurent Nuñez's statements, the right on the security context and political and professional reactions.

**Common ground**

- A firefighter was seriously wounded by gunfire on November 1 during an intervention in Pennes-Mirabeau, near Marseille
- The suspect, a 51-year-old man, was arrested then indicted for attempted homicide and remanded in custody
- Laurent Nuñez mentioned the possibility of an "ambush"
- RAID intervened to dislodge the suspect who had barricaded himself

**Differences**

- The right highlights an RN MP's statement on "savagery" and mandatory minimum sentences, absent from left-wing articles
- The left details the suspect's profile (behavioral disorders, illegal housing), an angle little present in the center
- The center emphasizes the judicial procedure and the suspect's confused explanations in police custody, more than the other sides
- The right cites terms such as "traveller camp" in some articles, absent elsewhere
