# Bouches-du-Rhône: firefighter shot and injured in Pennes-Mirabeau

> On November 1, during an intervention in Pennes-Mirabeau, a firefighter from the Bouches-du-Rhône department was shot and injured; the attacker took refuge and the RAID (Research and Intervention Division) was on site. The following day, professional firefighter unions called for rallies outside fire stations in support of their colleague. On November 3, the suspect was dislodged by the RAID and handed over to the justice system, stating he felt "persecuted"; an RN deputy called for minimum sentences, and Laurent Nuñez mentioned the possibility of an ambush. Later that same day, the 51-year-old man was formally charged with attempted murder and imprisoned.

## Reported figures

- 2 injured
- 1 arrests

## Coverage angles

The three sides cover the same facts (shooting of a firefighter in Pennes-Mirabeau, arrest, formal charges), but differ in angle: the left focuses on the suspect's profile and background as well as unclear circumstances, the center on judicial procedure and statements by the Minister of the Interior, and the right on the security-oriented political register and the experience of colleagues.

**Common ground**

- A firefighter was seriously shot and injured on November 1 during an intervention in Pennes-Mirabeau, near Marseille
- The suspect, a 51-year-old man already known to police and justice services, was arrested by the RAID
- The suspect was formally charged with attempted murder and imprisoned on November 3
- Laurent Nuñez mentioned the possibility of an ambush

**Differences**

- The right highlights the statement by the RN deputy on minimum sentences and "feralization," absent from left and center articles
- The left develops a detailed portrait of the suspect (behavioral issues, illegal housing), an angle less present in center and right coverage
- The center stresses the suspect's "confusing explanations" while in custody, an element not picked up in left excerpts
- The right mentions the arrest taking place in a Gypsy camp, a detail absent from left and center excerpts
