## Coverage angles

The three sides report the same proposal of a “great democratic primary” put forward by Gabriel Attal on TF1, but differ in the emphasis: the left insists on the stated goal of avoiding a Mélenchon-Le Pen duel, the centre largely dismisses the announcement and its framework (polls, outreach), the right first highlights the candidate's position in opinion polls.

**Common ground**

- Gabriel Attal is the Renaissance candidate in the presidential election.
- He proposed the organization of a “great democratic primary”.
- He spoke on TF1's 20H, a Wednesday.
- He said he wanted to avoid a second round between LFI and RN and reached out to candidates who refused it.

**Differences**

- Le Figaro highlights Attal's difficulties in the polls from its title, an element absent from left and most centre titles.
- Le Monde explicitly names Jean-Luc Mélenchon and Marine Le Pen, whereas the right and part of the centre talk about “LFI” and “RN”.
- Sud Ouest uses the phrase “barring the extremes”, vocabulary absent from the other extracts provided.
